3 Tips For A Better Marriage

I found that sometimes small changes make the most impact.

In this article, I will share three tips that positively impact one’s marriage and relationship, God Willing.

Tip 1 — Being Present

We often take the people we love the most for granted. It’s not that love is absent, but there is a lack of presence.

We fall into the habit of physically being with one another; however, spiritually and mentally, we’ve disappeared.

Two people need to be present for a marriage to work. But I have often found with my clients that it only takes one to start the ball rolling to better the relationship. With time, the other partner generally starts to mirror positive changes that have been integrated.

2 Ways To Start Being Present

  • Start making more eye contact.

Too often, our eyes are everywhere else other than looking directly into the eyes of the people we love (glued to our phones!) Yet, it’s essential that when a discussion occurs, eye contact is made. It’s a form of acknowledgment and a subtle gesture of love and respect.

  • Face towards your partner when talking to him/her.

Again we often unintentionally turn our backs or face the other way in the middle of a conversation. Facing your partner when talking with each other, is another form of love, acknowledgment, and recognition.

Tip 2 — Listen To Understand

This is vital to any relationship: listening with the intention of understanding. But unfortunately, we often fall into the trap of not listening because we are familiar with what is being said — or listening to spit out what is spinning around in our mind, which often doesn’t align with what is being said.

General Rule Of Thumb: Listen with the intention of understanding and answering in alignment with what is being said.

Tip 3. — Intend What Kind Of Relationship You Want.

Again marriages fall into the rut of simply going through the motions. It’s necessary to define and intend what kind of relationship you want. Do you want a loving, exciting, fun, or quiet relationship?

Only when you define what you want do you consciously align your thoughts and actions to create it, God Willing.
